Successfully negotiating and administering a CBA can be challenging. Mistakes – even honest mistakes – in collective bargaining can be costly and damage relationships with employees. With a broader understanding of common collective bargaining issues, fire districts and regional fire authorities can avoid many potential missteps. Richard Davis, Matt Paxton, and Peter Ruffatto will present an overview of Washington’s public sector collective bargaining issues, including bargaining unit formation, the bargaining process, unfair labor practices, investigations, grievances, and interest arbitration.
