Why does it seem like someone must get injured or die before we make changes to our laws and rules? I write today in memory of a man who tried to make these changes. He passed on May 30th. Ron Cato started his volunteer service as a firefighter
and EMS instructor with Spokane County Fire District 8. This is my district and Ron volunteered for us for two decades. He was diagnosed with stage four glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer common to smoke and chemical exposure associated
with firefighting. He had 18 months to live.
