Obituary of Joe Cathey Joe Michael "Mike" Cathey, age 74 died March 18, 2024, surrounded by his family. Mike was born May 26, 1949, in Pasco, Washington, and ended up in the Sumner area where he called home for over 55 years. Mike started working construction with his dad as a teenager and got a degree in construction management. He continued to work in construction in many different capacities, working selflessly to provide for his family until he retired completely in 2023. Mike had many different interests, but the most important was spending time with his kids and grandkids. He loved watching them play sports and enjoyed their musical talents. He had an incredible sense of humor and always had a joke or funny story to share. His confident, but warm personality made every person he met feel like they were at home. He loved World War 2 history and was thrilled when he was able to visit the beaches at Normandy. He was very involved in giving back to the community. He worked with the Pierce County Juvenile Diversion board, Sumner Rotary and the Sumner Food bank. He served as a Sumner/East Pierce Fire Commissioner for 26 years which led to involvement at the County and State level as well. Mike was predeceased by his parents Bill and Oleeta and his brother Don. Mike is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Janine. His children, daughter Shana(Scott) and their children, Nicolaus, Brittany, Scotty(TJ), son Anthony(Melissa) and their children, Evan(Daneeka), James(Emmaliesse), Lena(Zach), Caleb and Levi, daughter Stephanie(Tom) and their sons Thomas and Jack.and 6 Great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Gayle(Doug) and Kim(Win). Roger Knowlton, Commissioner, Sno. Co. Fire Dist. 5 passes away 07/25/2024 0 Snohomish County Fire District 5 Born on February 12, 1939, to Dale Donald Knowlton and Francis Evelyn Ellis. He passed on June 25, 2024, in Kirkland, WA. Roger moved to Sultan, WA in 1960. He joined the Sultan Volunteer Fire Department in 1963, in 1986 he became Fire Chief, and in 1993 spent the next 24 years as a Sultan Fire Commissioner. He received the distinguished honor of 50 years of fire service in 2013, and 54 years of total service in 2017. Roger served on the City Council for eight years, and the Civil Service for three terms in the late 70’s and early 80’s. The Knowlton family was one of the founders of Safe Stop, an organization in Sultan that helped give youth a safe place to go on Saturday nights. He was involved in this program for ten years in the 90’s. Roger was voted Logging Marshall for the Sultan Shindig in 2009. Sultan awarded him Citizen of the year in 2013. Roger is survived by his loving wife of 22 years Patricia Joan Knowlton and his extended family.      Roger’s Celebration of Life will be held on July 20th, 2024, at the Startup Event Center, 14315 366th Ave SE, Startup, WA 98293. The celebration will start at one o’clock in the afternoon.   In lieu of flowers, please send gifts to Sky Valley Chamber Logging Contest, PO Box 46, Sultan, WA 98294. Stephen Neupert, you will be missed. 0 T. Pettis It is with great sadness that North Kitsap Fire & Rescue (NKF&R) announces the passing of longtime fire commissioner and retired volunteer firefighter, Stephen E. Neupert. Commissioner Neupert has been a valuable member of the NKF&R Board of Fire Commissioners since 2005 and has been very active in local, regional and state fire commissioners organizations. Prior to serving the community in this leadership role, he was a dedicated volunteer firefighter for over 25 years with the former Kitsap County Fire District #5 (Indianola/Jefferson Beach), Kitsap County Fire District #10 (Kingston) and NKF&R.
